Avaya Aura 8 End of Sale

With Avaya announcing the End of Sale for Avaya Aura 8, organizations still using this version have three main options. Either continue to use Avaya Aura 8, upgrade to Avaya Aura 10, or migrate to a new platform. What is happening with Avaya Aura?

First up, let’s clarify what’s happening with Avaya Aura and how it will affect those still using it. From 13th December 2021, new orders for Avaya Aura 8 will no longer be accepted. Additional licenses for version 8 will be available until December 2022, however current perpetual licenses with SA/UA maintenance will move to subscription models.

Once End of Sale comes into force for Avaya Aura 8, all new installations will be procured as Aura 10. Crucially, the new version will be subscription-only meaning longer commitments and increased cost, and Avaya will no longer support previous versions.

Staying with Avaya

For many organizations, upgrading to Avaya Aura 10 will seem like the natural solution. However, an upgrade may require new hardware and additional virtual resource support. Aura can reduce your risk of migrating to Aura 10 by:

  • Stabilizing your existing estate to support the next stage of your communications strategy.
  • Offering migration and support services to ensure you’re getting the most out of your investment.
  • Auditing your service to ensure you only upgrade what you need and use, reducing cost.

What to do if you want to leave

On the other hand, some companies may have been considering a move to the likes of Microsoft Teams or Zoom for some time. The recent End of Sale notice provides the perfect opportunity to make the switch – with Avaya essentially forcing you out of Aura 8.

In this case, you’re better off moving to a platform that supports your future strategy than committing to another long-term contract with Avaya.
