Supplier Selection: Dare to Be Different

We’ve seen a lot of movement in the past couple of years when it comes to vendors. Organizations are looking to move away from legacy technology, while also adapting to disruption caused by the pandemic. The result is a lot more attention on supplier selection.

Simply put, people are considering who they work with and where they might go to next. All too often, the answer is one of the big service integrators (SIs) or service provides (SPs) – but is this always the best way?

In this post, we’ll discuss how daring to be different can pay off in multiple ways.

Playing it safe

First of all, it’s understandable why multinational organizations lean towards big SIs or SPs. They’re global, reputable and cover all bases. They’re a safe bet.

These big SIs tick every box, so multinationals believe they’ll get a comprehensive service with better control over their entire estate.

Unfortunately, that’s often not the case, and it’s a trait we often see.

In truth, a high proportion of the big names split up and outsource multiple parts of the contract. Where they lack capability, they outsource to get projects delivered.

This causes lengthier processes and decisions take much longer to be made. Customers often get caught up in a big chain of delivery partners where lines of responsibility are blurred. And often the case, the SIs don’t have complete control or visibility themselves.

Daring to be different

When you take big names out of the equation, you’re left with a choice of channel partners. These organizations don’t have their hands tied to a specific vendor. That means they can propose and deliver solutions based on what works best for each customer, rather than being vendor-led.

Because they’re generally smaller, channel partners are also more agile. They can make decisions faster, with simpler processes leading to a quicker delivery of your services.

However, they do have their drawbacks. Channel partners are often limited geographically. As a result, multinationals have to use multiple partners, which means managing multiple contracts and SLAs, with different points of contact and service levels.

The best of both worlds with Aura

Fortunately, there is a way to play it safe while daring to be different. Aura is an expert in providing and supporting best-of-breed vendors for UC, with the agility to adopt new technology swiftly to complement our collaboration and customer experience offering.
